Maggie Bishop's "Appalacian Adventure Mysteries"

Maggie Bishop is the author of a mystery series, Appalachian Adventure Mysteries, and two romance novels set in the Mountains of North Carolina in the Boone area. "I started with romance and have turned to murder."

In Perfect for Framing, greed and a lust for power led to murder in a clash of personal versus public needs.

Murder at Blue Falls has Jemma who leads trail rides on her parents’ guest ranch as a suspect in the murder of neighborhood dogs and well as a man.

Emeralds in the Snow involves skiing at Sugar Mountain, an emerald mine, and a cold case murder. Award winning Appalachian Paradise takes place on a five-day backpacking trip in the spring amongst the bears, boars and girl scouts.

  1. Welcome, Maggie!

I love what you said, that with your Appalachian Adventure Mysteries, you started with romance and turned to murder! (Isn't that always the way?!?!?)

Seriously, tell us a bit more about your writing and your characters...

  2. Hello Diana, The series started out to be about four men who were cousins and loved the mountains and all the outdoor things to experience. By the third book, Murder at Blue Falls, my publisher wanted me to keep my two main characters and continue in the mystery vein. In romance, you don't want the characters to fall in love with someone else so the story ends with one book. In mystery, the characters can continue to explore whodunits. Besides, mystery was my first love way back to Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys.
    Thanks for the comment!

  3. Welcome to BH, Maggie!

Greed, lust, murder, bears...Girl Scouts? Wow! You've covered just about everything, Maggie! Your series sounds intriguing.

Love the fact that you developed your love of mysteries from your childhood.

How many more books are planned in the series? Or, will you just write them as ideas develop?

  4. Hello Mary, I have two more ideas tucked in the back of my head. Some authors can work on many books at once but not me. I'm finalizing "One Shot Too Many" now and will start writing the next one after winter. During the winter, I let the plot trickle into the lake behind the dam in my mind before I commit anything to paper. My publisher is generous enough to let me put out a book every two years.

  5. Hi, Maggie,

I read one of your books, Perfect for Framing, and plan to read more. I really relate to (and like) the characters of Jemma and Tucker. Great job!

Diana, this site is very aesthetic; pleases my eye greatly... Good layout and soothing color combo.

Keep up the good work, both you ladies.

  10. Hello Diana, Marketing tips ... because my name is not well known and my books do not sell themselves, I meet more readers at craft fairs and give a discount when they buy 3 or 4 books at once. Four of us local authors split the cost of the booth.

Also, the Dames of Dialogue have a blog where we offer Author Interviews, writing tips, Friday Favorite, reviews and chat about other things. I'd love to interview you.

  13. Maggie, I'd love to be interviewed for Dames of Dialogue! My sidekick, Mary Cunningham, would be a great one for you to consider as well.

In addition to the face-to-face work you're doing, I think again you're proof that networking with other authors goes a long way to building a reader base.

Oh, I keep meaning to say I love your picture! Great smile and perfect for the setting of your books. Love the mountains. Makes me smile!
